Questions
General
Do I need an appointment?
No, you can walk in during opening hours. Booking online first means we know the model and fault before you arrive and can often have parts ready.
How much does a laptop repair cost?
Most laptop repairs cost £59–£149 including parts. Diagnosis is free if you go ahead, and you always get a fixed price before any work starts.
How long do repairs take?
Most repairs take 2–4 working days. Common batteries, SSDs and screens are often done same or next day.
How do I check on my repair?
Enter your repair number and postcode on the repair status page. The repair number is printed on your drop-off ticket and in your booking email.
What happens if my laptop isn’t worth repairing?
We tell you straight. We can recover your files, securely wipe the drive with a certificate, and recycle the laptop — or buy it for parts.
Were you called Rebooted Systems?
Yes. Rebooted Systems is now RE-USE Repair — same people, same workshop at the Windmill Centre.
Laptop repair
Do you charge to look at my laptop?
No. Diagnosis is free if you go ahead with the repair. If you decide not to, there’s a £25 bench fee for faults that take more than 30 minutes to find — we tell you before we start.
Will I lose my files?
Most repairs don’t touch your files. If a repair involves the drive, we back it up first and tell you before we do anything.
Do you repair MacBooks?
Yes — screens, batteries, keyboards, SSD upgrades on older models and liquid damage. Newer MacBooks with soldered storage have limits on what can be upgraded, and we’ll explain these when you book.
Is there a warranty?
Every repair carries a 90-day warranty on parts and labour. Batteries and screens carry 6 months.
Laptop screen replacement
Is it worth replacing a laptop screen?
Usually, yes. If the laptop is under about six years old and otherwise works, a new screen costs far less than a replacement laptop with the same specification.
Lines appeared without me dropping it. Is it the screen?
Not always. Lines can come from the display cable or the graphics chip. We plug in an external monitor first — if the picture is clean there, it’s the screen or cable.
Laptop battery replacement
Is a swollen battery dangerous?
Yes, it can be. A swollen lithium battery can catch fire if it’s punctured or keeps charging. Unplug it, don’t press on the case, and bring it in.
Can I keep using the laptop plugged in instead?
With a healthy but worn battery, yes. With a swollen battery, no — keeping it on charge makes the swelling worse.
SSD upgrade for slow laptops
My laptop can’t run Windows 11. Is it finished?
Not necessarily. Many of these machines run well on a supported Linux system for everyday web, email and documents. We can show you before you decide.
Will my programs still work?
Yes. We clone the whole drive, so programs, licences and settings move across unchanged.
PC repair
Do you collect from businesses?
For business customers within about 15 miles of Launceston, yes. Ask when you book.
Can you build a PC from parts I’ve bought?
Yes. We check compatibility first, then build, cable-manage and stress-test it.
Virus removal and Windows reinstall
Should I call my bank?
If you entered bank details, or the caller saw your banking, call the number on the back of your card now — before you bring the computer in.
Data recovery
My drive is clicking. What should I do?
Switch it off and don’t try it again. A clicking drive usually has failing heads, and each attempt to start it can scratch the platters further.
Do you look at my files?
Only file names and enough content to confirm the recovery worked. Recovered data is deleted from our equipment once you’ve confirmed you have it.
What does “no data, no fee” mean?
If we can’t recover the files you asked for, you don’t pay for the recovery. You only pay for a new drive to put the data on if you want one from us.
Secure data wiping
Is a factory reset enough before I sell my laptop?
On a modern laptop with encryption switched on, a full reset that cleans the drive is reasonable. On older machines, and for business data under UK GDPR, a verified wipe with a certificate is the safer record.
Do I get proof?
Yes. Each drive gets a PDF certificate with its serial number, the method used and the verification result.
